Pets Lost & Found
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
Pets Lost & Found is a free community service run by volunteers to help reunite missing pets with their families. This policy explains what information we collect through this website and how we use it.
Information we collect
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address and store a securely hashed password. We use verification and password reset emails to protect your account. Your account email is not displayed publicly.
When you register a missing pet, we collect the details you provide, including the pet’s name, category, breed or type, photograph, last-seen location, postcode, date and time, additional information, contact details and any Facebook post link.
How we use your information
- To identify your account and let you manage the pet reports you submit.
- To review and publish approved missing-pet reports on the public map and poster.
- To contact you about a report or help reunite a pet with its family.
- To protect the website, prevent misuse and understand how the service is used.
Information shown publicly
Approved pet reports may show the pet information, photograph, approximate last-seen location, postcode area, additional information and the contact details you provide. Do not submit information that you do not want displayed publicly.
Sharing and storage
We do not sell personal information. Information is shared only where needed to operate the service, comply with the law, protect people or animals, or with service providers that host and support the website.
We retain account and report information while it is needed to provide the service, resolve safety or administrative issues, and meet legal obligations. You may ask us to delete your account information and submitted reports.
Your choices and rights
You can change your password and update your pet’s status from your account. Optional status update details are displayed with approved reports. Marking a pet Reunited or In Memory keeps the record available to searchers. You may also request access, correction or deletion of your personal information. See our User Data Deletion page for instructions.
